I've never been able to get the stock temperature sender line to reach
either the hole on the side of the head let or the forward temp sender hole
on the intake.
Maybe you can mock up an engine/ tranny combination and set it up and back
as far as possible to see if the line will reach. You can gain some
additional room by going to a small aftermarket HEI distributor so you can
bring the motor back a little more.
I was able to use the stock speedometer cable on a 350 tranny.
