this is possible but not likely.....aluminum and iron oxide (rust...the
scourge of old car/truck guys) when mixed in the right proportions does form
thermite. thermite is very difficult to ignite, usually it is ignited by a
lit magnesium ribbon. both magnesium and aluminum are class d combustibles
(metals that burn). the reason thermite burns so hot is that the chemical
chain reaction causes the oxygen in the rust to come out and make the fire
burn more intensely(which would also cause it to be able to burn under
water). remember if you are ever around a metal fire do NOT try to put it
out with water(pretty light show that you do not want to be near). the way
to put it out is to smother it with DRY dirt or sand.
