They were built with the specific purpose of making General Motors lots
of money ;)
Seriously, it is derived from the advertising literature of the period.
Chevrolet advertised them as the new "Task Force" line of trucks. The
earlier series of truck were called Advanced Design for the same reason,
a term used in the advertising material.
