I have a 54 with a turn switch that had a wire not hooked up at time I
bought it. I was trying to use my brake light elements in taillights w/out
running extra wire and another lite. I hooke a wire from the brake switch to
the extra wire and it ran brake lights AND allowed signal to work. I only
have 3 wires to my flasher, maybe one of your four is that wire I mentioned
I used.
