Subject: Re: [oletrucks] 1951 numbers... can anyone tell me what I have?
The mystery truck is not here at my home yet, so I called my friend and got
the numbers and other info from him:
VIN -- 8JSE-1849
Also on the plate was: 8800 max. gross vehicle weight and 85 hp @ 3300 RPM
On the motor the number is: 3769716 (I think that is the number by the
distributor)
The head is off so he used a tape measure to check the size of the bore...
it is 3.5"
Is this enough info to tell me what I have? Any way of knowing if this is
the original motor? Size of motor? Is this motor worth rebuilding or
should I upgrade with a more recent 292 or similar?
BTW, thank you to John Dorsey for the wheel lug info. It is 8 lug on the
rear dual wheels so I guess this is either a 3/4 or 1 ton.
Thank you all for your help!

VIN & engine numbers would certainly help in determining exactly what you
have. Then, VINs were located on plates on the driver's side front door
pillar. The engine serial numbers are stamped in a flat just behind the
distributor & the casting number is located ahead of the starter (something
like 383####). I don't know much about the trucks over 3/4 ton, but I have
a lot of reference material & others on the list do work on the big trucks &
can tell you more details from experience. Send us your numbers.
