Anyone: Has anyone had any trouble installing the Ring/Pinion Swap from
Chevy Duty in your 55-59 series truck. I bought the 3:38 swap from them and
my mechanic is now telling me that the pinion gear is too large for the
housing. He says the ring and assembly fits fine in the housing. He says
the pinion will not fit, without some serious machine work on the housing. I
received this info last night (Sat. night) and have not looked at it yet
(Monday a.m.). I don't know anything about rear ends, so that is why I am
asking, so that I can at least know a little when I look at it in the a.m.
My truck is a 57 Cameo with the original rear end (4:11). Does the crush
sleeve have anything to do with making it fit properly within the housing? I
don't want to install another rear end if it is not necessary. Any info/help
will be greatly appreciated.
