Yesterday I just got my repro bumper brackets from BowTie Bits - the 6 piece
kit look GREAT. Now I need to cut off the old farmer bumper and get my
"original" rear bumper installed....
Install the new "original" tail light and bracket, new rear pockets, new
tail gate hinges and all of the fender braces since the old bumper held on
the fenders. I think I have some fun work ahead of me.
NOW MY PROBLEM:
I have a 216 stock 1946 Chevy and I have a new fluid problem. This seems to
be most of my major problem are with anything to do with liquid. Any and
all of these items will not keep working for long on this truck.
I have found a gas leak from under the glass ball filter. My glass ball is
pointing up.
This bottom piece of the filter is attached to the block in the front right
of the motor. It seems to be attached with 2 bolts to the block. I have
not taken it apart from the block. Also - up the gas line (between the gas
tank and the ball) I have a small filter cut into the line.
All of the connections do not seem to be the source of the leak. If I hold
a cloth over them they do not get soaked with gas and the leak keeps going.
If I take the cloth and press it on the back (cab side) bottom of the glass
ball holder it will soak up the gas.
It only leaks when the truck is running - if it is sitting there no leak. I
can not find the exact spot of the leak - it seems to be under the glass
ball. Since the fan it turning it is blowing back the gas and not letting
me see the exact location of a drip.
I first tighten down the 6 screws containing the ball to the holder - no go.
Next I pulled the 6 screws and separated the ball from the holder. There
seem to be a gasket with something in the center that looked somewhat like a
small thermostat. I have no idea what this is. I then placed the blue
gasket sealer between the ball and the holder on both sides of the gasket
and re-screwed it back together. This stooped the leak for one day. The
next day I started the truck and have the leak again.
Any ideas?
