Thanks for all of the feedback. While at work today, I found a 200 watt 1
ohm adjustable resistor ( it came from a DC drive). I put the resistor in
series with the blower. That slowed the speed down to what is reasonable.
The voltage drop across the blower was 4.5 volts with a one ohm resistor. I
adjusted the resistor to give me 6 volts across the motor. That required
the resistor to be set at six tenths of an ohm. The current measured 8
amps. What most of the vendors are selling is a 50 watt, one ohm resistor.
The required wattage is volts x amps = 6 x 8 = 48 watts. Newark sells a 1
ohm 50 watts resistor with a heat sink for about $9.00. Since I have the
adjustable resistor I intend to use it and have a hi and low speed for the
blower.
