Hi Tom,

I've always heard it is better to leave the doors in because it adds to the
rigidity of the cab.  I have lifted them with and without and have not had
problems either way.  The cabs are really not very heavy.  If you could get
above it, you could probably lift it up without a crane.

I made up a jig like this out of pipes the first time I lifted one, but
subsequently saw guys do it with just a rope, so I started doing it that way
too.  But if you have stress cracks, the jig can't hurt.

Yes, a crane is really nice, especially if you don't have to bother renting
it.  You find uses for it if you have it.  Downside is that it is ugly and
takes up space.  I like the fold up models so you can get rid of it when not
in use.

If you have helpers available, I'd invest the $20 in beer.  Having one or
two guys to help is easier.  I don't have this luxury, so it's me and the
crane, but if I did, I'd just stick a couple 2x4s under the roof or the
floor and lift away.
