I realized I didn't send my last response to the list so here it goes. When
I got my truck (46) the wipers acted much as you describe but erratically.
To the right when lever is pulled, and to the left when it is pushed in. I
found this odd, and not having any knowledge of old trucks or manuals I did
as we all do at times. I took the motor completely apart to see how it
worked. I saw how it worked, cleaned it, lubed it, and put it back together.
It works great now (sometimes we get lucky). When it is on (pull) the wiper
moves back and forth. When I push it back in the wiper completes a cycle and
then parks back on the left side. The only problem I have not fixed is when
I am driving in the rain and punch on the gas for hills or startup. I loose
all of my vacuum to the vacuum advance and my wipers stall until I let off
again. This is bad on long hills in the rain. I figure it has something to
do with my reservoir. Anyhow, not sure if that is supposed to be how the
wiper works but it sure beats keeping one hand up there to push and pull all
the time.
