The 261 is pretty much identical to the 235 except is  bores are cast bigger and
it has beefier rods. Later ones, 57 and on (I think) have a full flo oil
filtration system evidenced by the big oil lines. Many, but not all, can
recognized by the cast Captains Bars that look like Roman numeral 2. I have seen
a 235 with this symbol so its best to check the casting # to be sure. Casting
#'s are at the Inliner site.

  Most parts I can think of interchange.  There are pipe thread holes for a
filter, they must have plugs in them. Make sure that if the engine is a 261 and
they are the large type for a full flo filter you run the proper 261 filter and
lines or you will cut off oil supply to the bearings. Of course if it was run
like that it is probably toasted already. Yes, a short shaft pump will work on a
261.
