If you don't get some "offset" perches for the new diff, the "new" rear end
will sit forward, about 1-1/2". The original torque tube sits centered in
the wheel wells, but the mount is offset to the front, because the torque
tube has to sit on a pivot type of mount. I recently purchased some perches
for my '50 that are made with the holes offset 1-1/2" to make up for the off
center bolt in the springs. I've also seen a thread here that says you can
reverse the springs and that would put the bolt right in the center. I
haven't verified this....but I think you have to change the shackle and pin
arrangement too.

When you look at my '53 3100 from the side, it is obvious that the rear
wheels are not centered in the fender opening. Instead of being
approximately centered, they are about 4 inches to the front. Is this
normal? if not, do you have any ideas of how I might correct it?
Helpful info:
I just replaced the rear springs and noticed that the smoth pin is in the
front and the threaded pin is at ther rear of the spring. Since the new
springs had the bushings already installed, I presume that the springs are
not in backwards. The distance from the front spring eye to the "center
bolt" (that holds all the leaves together) is shorter than from the rear eye
to the same bolt. Is this correct installation or are they in backwards?
The differential is a GM with removable carrier, sort of like a F%$d 9"....
but it has GM cast into the housing. The locating hole is in the center of
the spring perchs, which are in line with the axle, not offset to the front
or rear.
If there is any other information you need so that you could help me, let me
know.
