I don't know if the following has anything to do with the popularity of this
idea, but I can't help but wonder if it comes from TV and movies where 95%
of car wrecks explode and catch on fire. I'd think most people would see
through this showmanship, but maybe not. I'll bet that there are 50 times as
many vehicle fires due to overheated catalytic converters than from fuel
tank ruptures.
This is just one man's opinion and I don't want to start a thread on this.
Guess 'bad science' on TV and movies is one of my pet peeves. Another
example is space vehicles with wings. Look at all the 'fighters' is Star
Wars and clone pictures. They even have them banking and 'pulling Gs' to
turn! Such disinformation is a shame.
