Gary, I usually take all the movable parts and the wheel cyls off, then wire brush the backing plates and when they're mostly clean, I paint them with corroless type rust converter, which brake fluid doesn't eat, as it does to paint. Other parts get cleaned in the wire wheel on my grinder.
