Well, it couldn't have started off better for me this Saturday morning!
Had planned on going to an auction early, but got a later start than I wanted
to. Left the house at 1/4 to 9, drove to the corner, turned it, and then
notice a flurry of paper blowing down the street...sayyyyyyyyyy, doesn't that
look like MONEY!? I hit the brakes, threw the truck into park , hit the
emergency lights, and my girlfriend and I jumped out to pursue the errant
paper bits...wow, it's $20 bills! We rounded up 6, with a lady in an old Ford
Maverick ahead of us stopping to do the same...I don't think she got as much
as I did, I got $100, the girlfriend got $20, so I shared equally with her.
Then as the lady up front pulled away, we noticed another bill that was under
the spot she just left, so we got that one, and made the total $140...if we'd
have left a few minutes earlier or later, we'd have missed the "Blessed
Event"! No one came back looking for any money, there were Home Depot
receipts mixed in with the money, so they must have had it all on the
dashboard or something stupid and it blew out the window. Oh well! We kept
going, and bought alot of stuff at the auction...I spent $44, she spent $38,
not bad for a free paid day at the auction! Got some good stuff really cheap,
I wanted an old Lionel "O" Gauge train, but that went rather high, at $270
for a decent blue 40's or '50's tinplate train that had snake-jointed cars. I
went to $150, but stopped there. I got some patio furniture, a nice
tractor-pull type of small trailer for only $35, and some box-lot stuff of
$1/box variety. After we loaded up in the early afternoon, we hit some toy
stores and fabric stores. I found a new TF '55 Chevy Cameo Truck, by Johnny
Lightning, it's a Monopoly series vehicle with a van and an SUV being the
other two I saw, at Wal-mart for $3. It's white with Water Works on it,
1/64th scale, and the neat thing is, in the package is a bonus TF Monopoly
piece for the board game! So you can play monopoly with a '55 Chevy Cameo
truck piece. The others had little pieces as well, so you can now have a
vehicle version game. Other vehicles listed include the '57 Chevy, Mustang,
Willys, Corvette, Crown Vic, Pontiac Tempest, Dodge Viper, Chevy Tahoe, Dodge
Dart, and Utility Van. These are all current cars produced by Johnny
Lightning under different series, probably. But the game pieces are neat. I
didn't see any of these at Toys R Us, just Wal-mart today.
I didn't find any AMC toys worth my time, only one more purple JL
Thunderjet Javelin AMX, and I have plenty of those, so I left it. Pretty
sparse for AMC toys today, but the old Cameo truck was nice. Got home,
unloaded the truck, and went thru some of the treasures. The girlfriend hit
the jackpot on a $1 box lot, lots of clothes, some from the Orient, and half
of them she could wear. Some were exceedingly fine, some silk, some
polyester. Me AND my feet were just glad to be home! We decided not to tell
the teenager, as he would think he'd be owed a cut of the loot! LOL! NOT! So,
time to close down and enjoy the afterglow of a day well spent, but not
costing us a dime! :) Hope everyone else had such good luck today! G'nite!
