[oletrucks] 6 to 12 volts

i just got off the phone with a guy who owns a 49 chevy pickup. to convert to 6 
to 12 volt all he did was put in a voltage regulator for a 55 12 volt 235 and 
changed the bulbs. says he has no problems and everything works ok without 
burning up wires. anyone else tried this b4 i do in my 41?
