Mike--

Sounds like you could have the gage wired wrong, or possibly you got the
wrong sending unit. Many cars/trucks used an idiot light for
temperature, and had a switch for the sending unit...but these usually
go "on" at a higher temp. Some Chevys had two lights, one for cold, one
for hot, but the senders had two terminals.

Make sure the gage is connected the right way, the pink wire should be
on the "IGN" terminal (toward the side of the cluster) and the green
wire on the "SENDER" terminal (towards the center of the cluster) it's
hard to see the markings on the back of the gage.

You should be able to connect an ohm meter across the sender (one lead
to the terminal, the other to the metal housing), and see the resistance
change as it gets warmer in a pot of water on the stove. The sender
does not actually "send" a signal, it just changes resistance with
temperature.

It's possible the dash gage is bad. Or the new sending unit could be
bad! soryy, I couldn't be of more help.
