Problem: I need a closed truck for business. I have been running a 1966 half
ton panel for 22 years. It is getting unsafe from rot out. Rear bumper fell
off last winter. I need a parts hauler, sandblasting sand hauler, engine
hauler. 38 suburban is too original to modify, but too rare to use in winter
snow and salt. Brutal reality: it's a toy for play. I couldn't drop an
engine on the tailgate and swing it inside. liftgate and tail gate are wood
framed. I need a vehicle with barn doors. In my back lot I have a spare 65
panel that's not too rotted. Needs drivetrain transplant and paint. Easy
job. I also have a 54 panel in restorable shape. I was never comefortable
with side visibility in panel trucks. I have a 53? GMC sub. that needs a
drivetrain and paint. and glass. I think it is rust free. It wouldn't be
too difficult to bring this one back. It also has clamshell doors, but I
could fit panel doors on it. Supposed to be an easy swap. I would have
modern Bendix brakes, modern 228 or 248 engine. I could use 12volts without
feeling guilty. I already run 12 v in my 54 one ton tow truck. I should be
able to haul 10-12 bags of sand at a time. And it is AD so I save face. And
I would feel like a king moving up to GMC. This would be an ideal working
truck. Looks like the 38 sub will have to wait. Too bad I spent my storage
garage construction money on the 38. Back to work! Everyone that asked for
pix please be patient. I'll get there some day.
