Could it be that the 3600 models '47-'52 had the right side spare tire
mount as a factory option?  I see that your '49 3600 is on that
side...and isn't that original?   Also in the book "Great American
Trucks" (pages 14-19) the 1949 3600 3/4 ton owned by Terry Ehrich of
Hemmings Motor News has the spare mounted on the right.
