I didn't even try to go to the Stafford springs swap meet as it was
snowing at my house at 6am. I live in south eastern CT.
The one I go to is the Lake Compounce meet (spring and fall), I've
attended it every year for a long time. I think it was 2 years ago at the
fall meet that the guys that run it (C.S.R.A.)were cutting the overgrown
weeds out of the "back 20" cause the vendors kept coming and coming. I got
there late (for a vendor) at 7am and thought I was in the back row, but then
by 9am I was in the middle row. The problem I had is I was alone and
couldn't go look and leave my stuff out at the same time. I sold every bit I
had including the trim rings off my 84 GMC 4x4 (deep dish corvette smoothes)
that I DROVE to the meet. One thing was I thinking, they had bad weather at
the Stafford meet and the vendors that go there were coming to the Compounce
meet too.

Well, I went to my first swap meet since I got my 46. Driving 2 hours in
the rain I knew it had to stop when I got there. WRONG. It was in Silver
Springs CT. It looked to me to have about 200 vendors. It was at a
racetrack and the full hot top track was covered with about 8 isles on the
mud infield. And some vendors were on the outside and in the "bull pen"
area. A lot of the vendors had their items covered with tarps so I had no
idea what they were trying to sell. It had rain all night the ground was
soaked and all of the infield isles were mud. So when you stepped you
sucked out the water with a loud slurp sound. I thought I was going to have
my boot pulled off a few times. This is not what I expected. There was
lots of car stuff but also a lot of other "yard sale" stuff - I only saw 3
sinks.
As for what I was looking for - I saw one hubcap (41-46) on a 53 truck but
they would not sell it. This was the only piece that I was able to locate
at the whole meet. I did buy a new 4 1/2" grinder a sheet medal pound out
kit and a few other new electrical items for $30.00.
Well it keep getting colder and then the rain turned to snow. At about 11
AM, a lot of the vendors were packing up. I was out of there at noon and
there were about 50 people waiting in line to get in. On the way out I saw
a 54 GMC 1/2 ton - in great condition. The guy just sold it for $3600. I
kept an eye out of the others on the list with no luck. Did any of you make
it to this event?
