Jim,
   Sounds like your master cylinder is still leaking fluid past the seals 
internally.  Is there any evidence of an external leak?  Some of these 
cylinders may have been honed several times over the years.  It could be 
sleeved or just replaced.  Same might be true of you drums.  They may have 
been turned several times in the last five decades.  have them measured.
