--still no luck seeing message appear on the list. here is a third try. if
it goes through, please tell me what i did right. what address is correct
to send to? i assume it is a closed list since you have to be added to the
list and authorized 'by hand'...

Just paid out the check and wanted to know if anyone had a hint on where to
start. The truck is in great condition for having sat for a year or more.
it was used on a farm for at least the last 5 years The guy I bought from
said it ran when he parked it last and I trust him. the wiring looks like
it should be replaced, and the carb should be cleaned out, but aside from
new fluids and a good look at the brakes, where would a guy begin to make
this truck drivable?

please forgive the (lack of) capitalization, I am excited to begin...

books and manual suggestions for reading are a help also.

truck info that I know:

1948 Chevrolet 1-Ton
9 foot longhorn box (wood and tailgate gone)
straight six motor, I think the 290ci or so.
4-speed standard tranny
411-posi rearend
17" split rims and cracking/flaking tires (first to go)
seat needs recovering or replacing
still six-volt electrical system
all original parts minus missing tailgate and rear lights
all metal is in good condition
hasn't been licensed since 70s
original colors seem to be dark green cab and bed and black fenders and
boards.
was used as a wrecker for AAA at some point (decals still show in places)
(wrecker apparatus is not present)
looks good on surface and fair on the inside. some of the standard rusting,
but has never seen winter salt as near as I can tell. (Minnesota vehicles
see much salt these days)

can you believe it, it's march and it is about 60 degrees here in Minnesota
on a bright sunny day. it feels nice but what's going on with the weather
system? any way it means a longer summer to work on the truck.

I am sure I will send in many questions to the list and hopefully many
successful photos. I have been watching it since last summer and finally
have a reason to participate. thanks for any and all ideas on the truck. I
plan to use it as a driver, not a show truck, so I don't plan to trick it
out. nice is good, but cost is primary so far.

thanks again
