Hi Terry,

I just finished reading the windshield wiper messages and came to the part
about " the one piece wiper cable" and it all made sense.

I have the unit mounted in my 50 Chevrolet P.U. and it's sweet. It mounted
up in about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs. Cost around $300 to $400 when all was said and
done If I remember right.

The unit their talking about is Manufactured by Specialty Power Windows.

They make the cable operated wiper unit to be either 2 spd self canceling
or 2 spd. with delay. They also have windshield squirter capability.

This unit uses a Mazda/Toyota type electric motor and a box with a gear and
cable "worm" that rotates through a flexible tube that's routed to both
wiper housing. As the motor rotates, the worm cable twist in the flexiable
tube and an adapter unit with a gear at the wiper towers rotates the wiper
arm.

The wiper unit mounts anywhere and your only limitation is the restriction
on the radius bends the inner cable can rotate under. I mounted mine on the
passenger kick panel and routed the tube up to each wiper tower.
to the body. The one-piece wiper cable goes under the cowl.

This unit is basically a copy of the MG wiper units which are also cable
operated. In fact I read an article about someone around Arizona that does
this conversion using the MG wiper and It only required a modification to
the wiper towers and the cable tube length.

I'm kind of a day late and a dollar short because I've already bought the
unit "am happy with it" but will from now on look at the wrecking yards for
MG and pull their wiper units out from now on and modify them for the
trucks.

It's just another project I'll be doing this spring.

If you need any other information just let me know. I'm pretty sure I still
have the installation instructions around here for those who may be
planning the MG option and need some hints of how the specialty unit
operates.
