[oletrucks] tire sizing

I am interested in up-sizing my rims and tires on my 50 3100.  I want as
big as possible.  I want to keep at least 50 series, maybe 40 if it looks
killer.  I also want wider, but not reversed, or portruding from the wheel
well.  
I was thinking about using a mild lower (2-3in) front and rear, and use a
18 inch steel rim, with 50 series rubber.  Has anyone tried this or had
intesting experences with tire sizing??
