Getting a dipstick tube out of a small block V-8 can be a challenge.
Sometimes they are in there really tight. You might try bending it
straight instead. Get a piece of steel rod, 5/16" diameter, and push it
into the tube as you slowly bend the tube straight, working from the top
of the bend, and gently wiggling back and forth. Don't wedge the rod in
there too tight, or you'll never get it out! If you have trouble
removing the rod, try clamping vicegrips on it and whacking the
vicegrips with a hammer.

Or, you can try removing the tube as follows: Put a 3/8" diameter bolt
into the end of the tube, and clamp some visegrips on the tube, around
the bolt (to keep from crushing the tube). Twist and pull on it, but be
carefull not to break it off where it goes into the block...because then
you'd have a real mess on your hands. You could try hitting the
vicegrips with a hammer here, too, although if the tube is bent, you
won't be working at the right angle.

The original tubes for use with ram's head manifolds were straight, as
you figured.

Good luck!
