Hi All!
I have seen several write in comments and questions regarding replacing the
non-working fan motors in the heaters. The motors between the recirc. and
fresh air heaters are the same. If you have a defective motor all you need
is a single wire motor, 2 wire if mounted in plastic as one wire is a
ground, from any current vehicle at the wreckers. The motors from units
produced up to and in some cases into the eighties are of basically the same
construction. As long as the motor has 2 through bolts 180' apart in the
casing and has the same size shaft they can easily be adapted to install in
the heater. Ususally all that is required is to remove the motor from the
heater, match one up from a doner vehicle and then make the required
changes, install the fan blade from your heater, mount the new motor in the
heater bracket the same way as the original one was and wire up. If only
one wire no proplem. If 2 wire check rotation. If fan spins back wards you
have the positive and negative leads reversed. The negative lead can be
secured to one of the fan mount bolts as the heater is metal and is grounded
through the cab. This will work for both 6volt and 12volt units.
Hope this helps, it worked for me.
