I recently purchased a '49 GMC Panel as a parts vehicle for my '50 Chevy
Suburban. The vehicle had been registered as "non-operative" for so long,
here in California, that it was dropped from the California DMV Database.
This vehicle is such bad shape it will never be on the road again. But, I
need to transfer the title so that I can take what is left to a salvage yard
when the time comes. I need to have the local police come out and verify
the vin since it is not running. This is to get the vehicle back on the DMV
computer.
The vin listed on the pink slip is: A228393208. This does not look like a
true vin number to me. Any thoughts from the group? The vehicle serial
number on the driver door post is almost completely gone but what I can read
looks more like what is on my suburban, a few letters and numbers.
Is the serial number the same as the vin number? I have looked on the tops
of the frame rails above the front springs and found no numbers. Where
should I look? Again, this is a '49 GMC panel.
