Hi all, this is my first "posting" to this list so if I get something
wrong let me know.
I have a 1947 2nd Series 3/4 ton with the painfully slow 4.56 rear
end. I have heard that this rear-end was used through 1972 but with
some better gear ratio's. Is this true?
If it is true, what would need to be done to put one on my '47? are
the housing's the same and could I swap the whole rear, or could I
just use the ring and pinion out of a newer rear end?
If this is all possible, what ratio's were offered in what years?
Finally, would it be worth it? If the ratio of the newer rear is 4.11,
would that buy me better gas milage or a better cruising speed to
justify doing the swap.
Thanks in advance
Keith
