It is the emergency brake cable COVER that goes between the rear drum and
the frame. My existing one is warped or has some problem where the cable
inside will not move freely. I have tried greasing it, etc with no luck.
I have found catalogs with every brake part under the sun for a 58-59 chevy
step, but not that one. Is there just a common part I can pick up
somewhere that will serve this purpose, and if so, what exactly do I call
the thing? Maybe I am just not looking in the right place.
Thanks guys,

As someone else mentioned, it can probably be had aftermarket, but before
you buy, try heating up the whole cable with a torch, get it good and hot,
actually letting the old grease smoke a bit. Leave one end in the vise, use
Channel Locks or ViseGrips on the other end and (wearing gloves) try to get
it moving.
Both cable on my '59 were froze (had been sitting for close to 30 years),
but I used the above, and they're free and working fine now.
Good luck.
