Hi Folks-

Now that it's September and my son has started back to grade school, our old
truck project has been put on the back burner.

To quote an old timer friend who recently commented on the progress of our
father & son restoration project...
"This rebuild is going slower than a snail with
a real bad belly ache!"

The comment was made in front of both my son and myself. I got a chuckle
out of the old guys words, but my son took it differently! After the "old
timer" shuffled his way beyond earshot... my 8 year old son said something
to the effect that:

1- He did not think it was very funny. 2- The only thing slower than a sick
snail is a dead one. 3- Can't we at least try to go as fast as a turtle? 4-
Are you (me, the dad) sure you are asking the Ole Truck list the right
questions!

Well, I listened to that and more and then suggested he post his own
question to the group in hopes of finding a way to proceed at a faster ...
more appropriate... 8 year old pace! So, here is his question (I've
followed it with a dad's translation!).

--------------------------------------------------
I need to know if we can mix a 58frame and a 59 cab.
I have a chevy apache. My 59 has a 3600 sticker.
A man said the 58 frame is 3100. I might put my cab on it.
Can I?
Your friend,
B
---------------------------------------------------
Translation:

We've got a 59 Apache Fleetside 3/4 ton which has a cab
in fair shape. We have a chance to buy a 1/2 ton frame
that is in very good condition with working drive train
attached. Will the 3600 cab safely/properly attach to
the 3100 frame without modifications? Is the cab weight/size
exactly the same for both 3600's and 3100's?
And... is this a good way to go, or should we rethink this idea?
----------------------------------------------------

Also... we've got an old car and truck show that is coming
up in October. Just a local thing that draws about 100 to 200 vehicles.
Well, my son REALLY wants to enter his "barely started
rust bucket" apache in the show! (I'll be glad to send a photo to give an
idea of it's condition.) I love his desire to be a part
of the show, but is this a good idea at such an early stage of restoration?

He really wants to enter the show, but I don't want to get run out of town!
So...what do you think of -=this=- related idea? ===> Since we've already
started restoring the tailgate (as I'm teaching him the step-by-step
restoration process)... I wondered if we could fully restore just the
tailgate and display it (with restoration photos) in an educational manner
in front of the actual "ruct bucket" which we plan to restore over the next
8 or 9 years.

Is anything like this ever done, or might it be a big mistake? Might folks
who have entered their finished "show vehicles" be upset with our father &
son "educational"... in progress entry?

I'd like to go with his interest and ambition, but at the same time... I
don't want the whole thing to backfire, and turn him off to the idea of
completing the truck.

Having zero experience with this kind of thing I really would like some
advise from list members on this one.

Thanks in advance-

Ken
