Hi John,

>From your post the other day, it sounded like you did the bearings,
too. Did they go in OK? I had a tough time with mine. I think the
spring on the seals is to help the rubber maintain it's shape and
conform to the axle; if it's lost I'd expect the seal to leak eventually
if not right away. Does it, or do you have it all together yet? I
installed them with the coat of permatex like the book said, and gently
tapped them in using a cheap seal driver I got from Harbor Freight to
spread the hammer blows over the full circumference of the seal. Using
a board, flat against the seal, would probably work too. For the
bearing, I used the old bearing but the old seals aren't really tough
enough to beat on. Did yours still have the original leather lipped
seals in place? Mine did. Weird.

Dear List,
I really struggled with
these wheel seals. Sure
glad I don't do this on
commission...Possible
major problem that I had
was that the little
springs popped out and I
could not get them to
stay in. Just how
important are those
springs anyway. Should
I be preparing to
dissassemble again?
Thanks,
John 54 3100
