I am the new proud owner of a 1956 Chev Truck.
This truck has been fitted with a tow truck body, (in US I think you
call them wreckers).
Problem is, I have never seen another one, know nothing about them and
have no idea who to ask. They are different to the US models as far as I
can tell. I know a lot of the Chevs that came to Australia were built in
Canada. We are right hand drive here. Unfortunately I am too young to
have seen these new and not many old timers know about them.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
The badge on the fender says '1500 Chevrolet Truck'.
On the firewall there are two plates.
One says-
General Motors Holden Limited Australia
Body Identification No. 7386636-373
Trim 80-549
Paint 253-7592
The other has just numbers -
TR197044
561533 HS33629
There is also a plate on the left hand door jamb which says -
Chassis 130S
Max Gross Vehicle Weight 4 Tons 0 Cwt
The wheel size is 7.50-20
Wheels have 10 studs rear, 5 studs front. Bolt circle approximately 7 ¼
inches
Engine is a 6 Cylinder. I beleive it is a 235 Chev.
Gearbox is a 4 speed with power take off for winch.
Body Style - Tow truck (wrecker)
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
