This is thru Stella who writes in Hemmings Letters. I already got involved
with NY which assured me this will not happen here. Everyone in other states
should keep themselves informed.

RE: Senate Bill 285 (Mountjoy) - - OPPOSE

 Dear Senator Mountjoy:

The Automotive Service Councils of California and its 2,700 members must
respectfully oppose Senate Bill 285. This bill would exempt from the
emissions roadside auditing requirements any motor vehicle manufactured
prior to the 1974 model - year, and within four years, all vehicles 30
or more model - years old.

Our organization, composed of independent automotive repair shop owners
and a member of the Partnership for Clean Air, is concerned with the
provisions of S 285 because the vehicles to be exempted are more likely
to be gross polluting vehicles that have a negative impact on our air
quality. To remove these vehicles from the requirements of the remote
sensing and other roadside emissions auditing programs would undermine
both the integrity of those programs and, most importantly, the air
 quality of California.

For the above reasons, we must oppose SB 285. If you have any questions
on our position please call me at (916) 442-2840.

 Sincerely,

 Tom Riley
