Gene,
Check two things. 1) the connectors themselves; how well are they afttached
to the wire and how well is the connector attached to the terminal. High
resistance thru bad connections could cause this. 2) Since you said it was
in your charging circuit, it could also be caused by a bad regulator. The
regulator is supposed to have contacts that open and close, depending on
whether the battery or generator is a higher voltage. Stuck contacts would
mean the generator is always charging the battery. If your wire is on the
smallish side, this may overheat the wire.

If the problem went away when you changed the wire, it was probably a poor
connection. If it persists, check your regulator.

Help please...
Has anyone experienced a wire getting too hot and seemed to have started to
melt? The wire from my 12v generator that connects to the vol regulator
gets
extremely hot. The wire from the vol reg to the starter is also very hot. I
only noticed this after driving for approx 30 minutes when the truck began
to
hessitate. I recently replaced the 12 volt battery with a new one. Could
this
have possibly caused this problem? The wiring harness was new and installed
2
yrs ago. Truck had been running fine until now.

Thanks in advance,
Gene
