My brother's 55 Chevy 1/2-ton had a 261ci in it. I don't know if it was
original, but I would assume that it was due to the fact that there was
only one previous owner and the truck had only 60 or 70K on it when he
bought it. He and Dad thought it was a 235 until they pulled the head to
install a new head gasket and the 235 head gasket wouldn't fit. I suppose
that the PO (Montana Farmer/Rancher) could have swapped in the 261 from an
old grain truck or something similar, but that seems like a lot of work.
Could Bob Adler or another list member enlighten us?
