All this talk about the Suburban made me remember I had bought some B & W
photos, 12" x 18", from a Virginia Beach, VA flea market some time ago. They
were about $5 each, and I bought about 20 of them of various 55-59 Chevy cars
and trucks, as they appear to be the original GM advertising photos, and were
in excellent shape. They may be repros, but in 12 x 18? Anyway, I bought pics
of the '55-59 Task Force Panels, and also have a 2-page ad from some magazine
featuring GMC Suburbans testing the RSD ( or Road Shock Damper ) Suspension,
which was standard on the Suburban, and optional on other 1/2 ton models. It's
one of the few GMC AND Suburban ads I've ever seen ( actually the only one ).
I've never seen a split coil spring with this "thing" in between, kinda looks
like an airbag you'd see on a modern semi trailer suspension system. Kinda
interesting. I have scanned the GMC ad, and also 2 '55-56 Chevy Panel truck
promo pics. Both are of light colored ( white ) trucks with logos on them.
They are so big, though, that I couldn't scan the entire picture on the
scanner at once, so I just scanned what I could. Anyway, if anyone wants a
"copy" of the scan, email me direct, please, and I"ll send it on. Love to see
a Suburban book of some sort, maybe have a chapter on the Cantrell Wagon as
well, as it's pretty much a Woody Suburban anyway. I know I have a booklet I
bought from Carlisle swap meet somewhere with all the commercial truck's for
'1955, showing panels and suburbans and there respective options, but I wasn't
able to find it tonite ( small surprise). I'll keep looking, though, and scan
some of that when I get a chance. Later, subbies!
