Rob,

Converting to a more modern light switch would do the trick, regardless of
having converted to dual filament bulbs. I've had the switch out of my '58
and looked it over, as I once had thoughts of doing the same thing (fixing
it so that the parking lights would stay on when the headlights were on).
You can't do that with the original type switch. The way it's designed, when
you pull the knob out halfway, the contacts make contact with the parking
light circuit. When the knob is fully pulled out, the contacts can no longer
make contact with the parking light circuit; they are switched to the
headlight circuit only. Shouldn't be too difficult to convert, you would
just need a newer headlight switch, the proper wiring connector - and then
have fun splicing all those wires to the newer connector. 8^)

I don't know about retaining the original knob, though. Might be best to
experiment with a pullout switch from a junkyard out of a vehicle from, say,
the seventies to see if the shaft/knob from your old switch would fit before
proceeding with the conversion.

If you try it, LMK how it turns out.
