Regarding "The Big Apple": Funny, I have never hear New York referred to as
"The City", nor any other city for that matter. But it seems like every New
Years I can remember, New York was referred to as "The Big Apple", by those
on TV or Radio (for you old guys) who watched that dumb glass ball drop at
midnight. But I would suggest you read the history of "The Big Apple"
referenced below. It is very interesting since New York

Going back to the 1950's as a teenager, going to NYC was always a trip to

City".
That was the only description necessary for people to understand where you
were going.
We did live in San Francisco in the late 1960's and I never heard it
referred
to as The City....at least as far as I can remember!
The Big Apple is a term used only for and by the same people that refer to
San
Francisco as "Frisco"......tourists.
