Have to say that's quite a coincidence that your friend had an Aceca as there
were not that many of them produced. Mine has the original AC (Weller) engine
in it which is good for about 102 hp. Not exactly neck snapping by today's
standards but not too bad. When AC first started putting the AC engine in
Aces and Acecas, they were rated at about 85 hp (note that the original "light
six" was rated at about 40 hp when it first came out around 1921) and by the
end of the production were rated at 105 hp. Bristol engines (an expensive
upgrade at the time) were rated at either 105 or 125 depending on the state of
tune. When the supply of Bristol engines dried up, AC enlisted the Ford
Zephyr which was also an inline 6 cylinder. At its highest state of tune it
was rated at 175 hp.
My apologies if I got a little bit carried away with the AC history lesson...
Will try your suggestions when I get into it this weekend and let you know
what I find.

Greg, I was at a friends house today, watching him paint a car and I asked
him if he knew anything about the AC Aceca. To my astonishment he told me
that he used to own one and of course regrets selling the car. He said that
the original engine was designed in 1919 and stayed almost that way until
they installed the Bristol engine and later the Ford Zephyr (Zodiac) V6.
What engine do you have in your car? He suggested checking the oil pressure
gauge with a manual gauge and then blowing all the oil lines clean. Keep us
advised on what happens.

I had the same problem on my TR to the point that the oil blew through my
gauge in the dash. There is an adjustment screw on my oil filter housing to
regulate the oil pressure. I would change my oil and filter, check the oil
for
particlate matter, re-check the pressure, and then look for that adjustment
screw.
