Mark, I don't understand the reason for disconnecting the valve cover
breather pipe from the front air cleaner. It's meant to capture the oil
vapor and prevent it from going into the air. If you fit the K&N filters
you will need to perform some minor surgery to the front K&N air filter.
The K&N filters have a wide rubber seal around the perimeter, which will
block the vent opening in the front air filter plate so that the breather
pipe will be blocked. Not a good idea. It's easy to fix by cutting a W
shape with a utility knife in the rubber seal of the K&N filter. The MGA
Guru, Barney Gaylord shows how to do it on his website, WWW.mgaguru.com. Go
to the Carburetor and Exhaust, section CB 201. When I fitted them to my car
I did not grind the inner pedestals down as Barney suggests. I made 2
gaskets out of Cork and placed them either side of the K&N filters to take
up the extra play in the filter housing.

Subject: Re: [Nobbc] Removal of breather pipe? MGA
It has been suggested to me that removing the breather pipe on the
MGA will reduce the oil burned, and also that I should exchange the
oil cap for a vented one.
What is the logic on the breather pipe removal? Is it simply that
oil in the rocker cover will then not get sucked into the carbs?
If I remove the pipe will I not have the under side of the bonnet
covered in a fine mist of oil? Doesn't sound attractive.
General loss of oil has been much improved by simply tightening
everything I could get my hands on!
The car is running much better for valve and float adjustment.
Thanks
Mark
