The "Spring" upgrades on the 4/4 are moving along... now that it's August,
we're hoping for some Autumn cruising.
This evening I attempted to begin the reinstallation of the front end
components... new main and rebound springs, king pins, etc. However trying
to muscle the main spring into place has proven to be a bit of a chore. No
amount of fiddling will get the main spring to compress enough to get it in
under the upper thingy (forgive me, it's late and I have trouble with the
little stuff... we're fortunate I still have a sense of humor after
tonight's episode). I tried to fabricate a compressor of sorts, but I could
only get about 5 coils... the rest were blocked by the dust cover on the top
and the upper part of the spindle on the bottom. I checked the lenght and
the new mains are longer by about an inch than the old ones. My good friends
at Morgan Spares tell me I have the correct springs for a 4/4... longer than
the +4's, but with less "rate".
Comments... HELP!!!
