Back in the 60's when I had my TR3, yes alluminum flywheels were an racing
option although I was never able to find one. I did however find a used
Triumph OD and fitted it neatly to the Triumph transmision. Instead of
mounting the OD switch on the dash where 2 hands were required to shift I
put the switch on a small pipe bolted to the side of the gearshift like the
2 speed axels on the mack trucks. I could shift from 2nd overdrive to
third in one swift move.
Another option our club had heard about in the early 60's was a DOHC.
Apparently there were several double overhead cams made for the Standard
Triumph Tr3 block. They were used on the race circuits, in those days, ie
Le Mans and Brands Hatch, and the combination of the duel webbers, Headers,
the overbore cylinders, a port and polish, and this DOHC made an awsome
performer of the old tractor block. The DOHC were mothballed for some
reason, and never able to be found or so the story we were told goes.
Anyone know of this tall tale???
cheers
