STEVE - try your local friendly speed shop. They should be able to get (or
have in stock) any number of spacers of different thicknesses and PCDs
some of the spacers fit many applications ). I think Moroso is one
manufacturer. You could also check a Summit (sp?) Racing catalog or their
website. One thing you MUST DO is make sure that after you install the
spacer (if that is the way you go) you check and make sure there is still
enough "meat"/thread remaining on your wheel studs to get a secure/safe grip
on your lugnuts!

PS If you're unsure, take along a wheel to make sure the spacer you are
interested in fits/seats properly inside your wheel.
PPS Or . . . . any machine shop can make you a custom spacer out of round
stock as long as you give them the measurements but I'm sure one of the
"universal" products should work . . . .and they're cheap!

Subject: Re: tire clearance
Tim,
Sorry I missed you! My brother and I were at the track on Thurs afternoon
and Saturday. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to see the 4 wheelers
run. I finally got to meet Greg Solow and was hoping to hook up with other
Moggies.
I'm going through the same tyre fit issue on our '56 Plus 4. It has old
Pirelli 5.50 -16 on steel wheels now. The tire size recommended is
5.00/5.25-16. I want a radial and was told to fit 165R400. Couldn't get
them mounted.
I bought a set of Michelin Pilote X 5.50 -16 from Coker at Laguna Seca and
got a good deal. The issue now is that the cross section width of this tyre
is listed as 6.5", a full 1/2 inch wider that what is on the car now (and 1"
wider than the "correct" bias ply tyre). I just looked at the clearance on
the car and see that there may be a problem with the exhaust pipe (new
stainless fitted around the old tyres) and the front...the old tyres already
touch the rub blocks.
So, do I try to space the wheels outward? I need to look into clearance on
the wings and wheel wells. Could the blocks be adjusted along with
"notching" the frame slightly? Shall I just not worry about rubbing and
live
with a slightly increased turning radius? I'd prefer to keep the steel
wheels.
Anyone, anyone??
Thanks,
Steve Dreiseszun
