Its now my turn to deal with the issue of rare and expensive Moss box
parts.
All the gears are in good shape but the synchro faces are worn to
virtually zero grooves remaining. Are there any nifty suggestions for
such a situation or is it best to simply buy new gears (2nd and 3rd)?
The splines on my input shaft are excessively worn so I'm shopping for
a new shaft HOWEVER the input shaft I have does not have its gear held
on with a retaining ring. I assume it is a press fit but I'd like
some confirmation. Are there any serious drawbacks to having material
welded onto the splines and having them re-cut and heat treated? At
$600 USD for a new input shaft, the cost may be comparable?
Are there any commercial bearings identified for the front and rear
layshaft bearings? Mine aren't bad but they do rattle a bit and I'd
rather not open the box again in my lifetime.
Thank you for your assistance.
