Gotta get my two cents worth in here!
Perhaps Chuck Talbot was at the same SCCA race at Riverside in about
1964 (I think - the ram chips are getting elderly; mabye it was
1960).
I was watching the proceedings from the "S's" when all of a sudden
directly in front of me as I was glued to the chainlink a Birdcage
Maserati overdiced and did several 360's along the incorrect axis and
self destructed. Fortunately I recall the driver walking away from
the scene; but that's about all I remember.
So; someone in the past has placed a gorilla in a birdcage! It was
quite successful as well as best I can remember.
On the moralizing side; this particular incident made me a firm
believer in seat belts! From that time onward I have never objected
to wearing belts!
