Here's one for the list about guages. I have a Fuel Safe cell in MY Plus
4, and it has a solid state sending unit that works on the impedance of
two brass rods separated by rubber donuts in a tube formation. I bought
a fuel guage from Fuel Safe, and it is, as near as I can tell, a
plain-vanilla modern fuel guage. Nothing special, but I paid mucho for
the Fuel Safe logo on the front. I have tried hooking up the sender to
my in car fuel guage, powered up the sender per the directions
and....nothing. I have a lengthy email from the engineer who designed
the sending unit and he says, flatly, that it won't work with the old
style guage, but it will with the new style guage. I have since run into
some 'experts' (who will remain nameless here, because they are experts
and friends) who blithely say, "Aw yeah, its an easy hook up." but
usually this is in the paddock somewhere where we don't have
time/inclination to go into details about how this is best accomplished.

So as I see it the question is: is there a new style and an old style
fuel guage for the Morgan Motor Car? Has anyone of you run into this
problem and worked up a solution? Or am I going to be the pioneer?

I can always hang the Fuel Safe guage below the dash and hook it up that
way, but there's no challenge, and I always carry a yardstick around to
measure the gas, so who cares anyway? Now that it's winter, this will be
one of my garage projects, along with all the other (more serious)
stuff.

All the best to all of you-
Chip Brown
