I just read an interesting article in the November 99' issue of Car and
Driver. It talked about motor oil most appropriate for older, seldom run
"keeper" cars. It stated that many of these cars experiencing problems
(such as sticking piston rings) are caused by corrosion and not wear. The
article recommended using Heavy Duty Diesel truck oil as the extra
detergent additives helped prevent corrision problems. It said to look for
oils with a CG-4, CF-4, CF-2 or CF rating. The downside to using these
oils was a slight chance of seal leakage and problems associated with sluge
breaking free and possibly clogging such things as hydraulic lifters.

John
