My 1st +8 (a 1978 model) came with Dunlop SP's which were dreadful. When
they wore out I put on Michelins and the difference was amazing: the car
went round corners so much faster.

Interesting! My '77 Plus 8 originally came with 185/70 VR14 XWX Michelins.
After coming a cropper in the wet one fateful Day, I switched to Kleber HR
units - definitely better in the wet - either that, or I learned to be A WEE
BIT more cautious! The Michelins also seemed to like getting punctures,
including one @ about 115mph (OF COURSE it was on the German Autobahn,
officer! You know, the one between London & Oxford!). Not that Mogs paid a
blind bit of notice! It was only until smoke bgan pouring from the front
wing that it became clear summat was up! The carcass was F----d! Is there
any safer car, lads & lasses?! Of course not!
