I have always pre bent and fitted the strips prior to fitting them to
the body. I also pre drill and counter sink the screw holes again before
attaching, that way you can avoid any other screws holding things together
under the deck. I paint the strips to match the car and use small oval
headed stainless Phillips screws that polish up nicely. I do not cover
them with body filler as this cracks or shrinks to reveal the screws over
time. I space them a couple inches or so apart, I don't think it is
critical. You can put some electrical tape trimmed so that it does not
show on the bottom of the strips so they do not mar the paint. Good luck!
