The reason the front spring mounts were lowered was to induce roll
understeer. This was done to help counter the tendency toward over steer
that it was felt would be caused by the trmendous increase in torque jof the
3.5 l V-8 over the TR-4 engine previously used.
When the springs are tilted forward by the front spring eye being lower
than the rear spring eye, as the body rolls to the right when the car is
entering a left hand corner, the left end of the rear axle moves rearward
and the right end of the axle moves forward. This steers the rear of the
car inward toward the corner and thereby induces under steer.
